FAQ & What to Expect

Creating classic, unique and timeless portraits is truly a skilled art. Being able to reproduce consistent quality and style comes with experience most hobbyists don’t have. I have spent the past 3 years of my life studying and perfecting my passion for photography. With the years I have become expert in facial angles, quality of light, camera position, correct lens usage, and color harmony. These are few reasons my portraits are so special and sought after. As a result of photographing many families and kids, I understand family relationships and developmental stages of children, making your portraits experience fun and stress free. Every portrait I create for my clients is personally enhanced and retouched by ME with great attention to detail. Enhancing portraits can include smoothing skin, removing blemishes, softening lines, enhancing eyes and removing dark circles.

During our session you can expect a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I want you to feel at ease and enjoy yourself during our time together. I like to get to know my clients and capture their true personalities. With families and children you can expect both posed shots and candids.

Please expect to take breaks if infants and small children are involved. Infants often need breaks to nurse or feed and just get some love from mom and dad. Toddlers sometimes have meltdowns and don’t want to cooperate. That is okay! This is expected with children of this age and this is the norm with sessions with small children.

With small children it is a good idea to bring their favorite snack and/or toy(s) if we’re meeting at an outdoor location. Sometimes the best shots are of your child being natural and playing with mom, dad or siblings. They also come in handy if your toddler has a meltdown and just needs a break to play and let the mood pass.

With newborns you might want to have a change of clothing as it is almost impossible to avoid accidents such as spit up or getting wet with a naked baby. So, don’t worry, this too is expected and I will have several blankets on hand for infant sessions to swap in/out. Make sure to bring the wet wipes and diapers. Newborn sessions typically last three hours, so please plan accordingly. If parents and/or siblings would like to participate in the newborn session, we will get those photos taken care of first, so please let me know if you plan on participating.

It’s never too early to book! Sessions fill up quickly, and it’s always best to contact us as soon as possible for an appointment.

Newborn Sessions: Ideally captured within the first 5-10 days of life, when your baby will be sleeping deeply and curling up naturally for those precious newborn poses. However, we understand that these first few weeks are unpredictable, and although we can no longer capture some of the flexible poses from those early days, we still welcome babies at a few weeks old for in-home newborn sessions.

Baby Session : I recommend planning your baby portraits around the following milestones:
• 6 Months: Sitting, smiling, and starting to show their personality.
• 9 Months: On the move! Crawling, rolling, and giggles galore.
• 12 Months: Standing, cruising, or even taking first steps. We love ending sessions with a cake smash to celebrate their very first birthday.

Maternity: Maternity photography is best captured around 32 to 37 weeks, when your belly is full and round. This timing can be different for everyone.

Sessions typically last 60 – 90 mins (babies a little more). I make sure there is plenty of time for diaper changes, snacks, and cuddles to put your baby at ease. I encourage you to bring along a change of outfit and accessories to add variety to your child’s portraits. My spontaneous and silly approach allows us to capture those unexpected moments that become the most beautiful, meaningful portraits.

My sessions may be captured in my home studio, in your home, or at the outdoor location of your choice. My home studio is a warm and cozy environment. Usually I do two sets of backdrops per session to add variety to your portraits. I also love photographing baby and family portraits in the natural splendor of the outdoors. The vibrant colors and textures provide a stunning backdrop. Choosing a location that is special to your family is a wonderful way to add a personal touch to your images. I have lots of favorite locations, and I’ll be happy to help you select the ideal setting for your shoot.

Clothing is a key element for beautiful, timeless portraits. If more than one person is participating on the session coordinate your outfits with a palette of complementary colors for beautiful portraits. Neutrals, creams and soft pastel colors always looks great. Have fun with layers and accessories to add pops of bright color and dimension to your portraits. Rich textures, simple patterns, chunky jewelry, scarves, hats, headbands, and ruffles photographs well. I always encourage getting creative with fairy wings, rubber rain boots, stylish hats, and funky headbands. Bare feet are always preferred!

Following your session, I select the best images for processing and retouching. I devote time to carefully compare the hundreds of images from your session to select the best ones from each concept — based on facial expressions, posing, lighting, sharpness, and overall appeal. These images are each individually processed and enhanced into a true work of art. Your session will be completed and ready for digital download in 2-3 weeks.
